Knightdale is an enthusiastic community that takes recreation seriously. Youth ages 5-17 participate in programs including basketball, baseball, tee ball and softball. An adult summer and winter basketball sports league is provided as well as a co-ed softball league.

The Parks and Recreation Department has opened the doors to its new Recreation Center. The Center is part of a 169-acre tract that also includes a Community Park, Knightdale High School and Forestville Road Elementary School. The Community Park encompasses 4 ball fields, 2 soccer fields, a playground and lots of room to expand in the future. The Recreation Center offers programs for all ages including: Cheerleadering, Karate, Drawing, Pottery, Scrapbooking, Crafts, Preschool Ready to Learn Program, a bridge club, parents night out and more. The Center is located at 101 Lawson Ridge Drive attached to Forestville Road Elementary School.

The Knightdale pool is open to the public during the summer for swimming and swim lessons. The pool is available for rental during the summer after closing time. The clubhouse is available for rentals throughout the year. The site also has a 9 hole Frisbee golf course that is open to the public at no charge.

Knightdale Environmental Education Park is located behind Knightdale Town Hall on Steeple Square Court. The park offers a half-mile walking trail, picnic shelters, four environmental sculptures and two observation overlooks. The park can be accessed by parking in the side lot of Knightdale Town Hall or by parking in the rear of the East Regional Library parking lot. The park is certified as a Backyard Habitat by the National Wildlife Federal. The certification shows that the site offers wildlife food, water, shelter, and a place to raise their young. Plan to bring your family to witness the natural beauty.

Harper Park located on Main Street features five picnic areas with grills, two of which are covered, a gazebo and a children's' play area. The Harper Park location is also the site of our new Teen Center, "The Place". The center is open to teens ages 13-17, amenities include: pool table, ping pong table, air hockey, football, darts, games, arts and craft projects, computers with internet access, and a 52-inch plasma TV with play station. The summer program includes field trips and weekly pool trips. The school year program includes homework time with a tutor and supervised internet access for projects and assignments.
