Education ![]() The Wake County Public School System is devoted to maintaining academic excellence for each cild, and boasts 49 Schools of Excellence and 61 Schools of Distinction. Newcomers can expect to find a high quality, diverse and rapidly growing school system. Wake County Public School System, governed by the Wake County Board of Education is the second largest school system in North Carolina, behind only the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system. It is the 23rd largest system in the nation. Wake County Public Schools is known for its diverse and balanced school populations and strong magent school program which allows for parents to select schools for children with special talents, specific needs or general interests. Also, WCPSS(Wake County Public School System) currently provides both traditional and year round school calendars based on the campus attended. Transportation is provided if you live more than one and one-half miles from your base school. To determine your base school you can contact the school directly or visit www.wcpss.netand go to the Student Assignment Locator. The discipline status enrollment form is required for any new registering student. Knightdale currently offers four elementary schools K-5: Forestville Road, Lockhart, Knightdale and Hodge Road. East Wake Middle School provides the space for grades 6-8 and Knightdale High School, home of the Knights, provides an in-town campus for grades 9-12, in addition to East Wake High School which had been the only alternative for area residents. East Wake Education Foundation Back to Top The East Wake Education Foundation was founded 13 years ago by citizens who wanted to assure the finest educational opportunities for their children. In addition to supporting our area schools, the Foundation serves families with children, ages birth to five to help children arrive at school age healthy and ready to learn. The Foundation has a Family Resource Center with planned activities Monday thru Thursday available at no costs to the families. For families who cannot go to the Center, services are provided through the use of a Mobile Unit upfitted like a pre-school classroom. Contact: Linda Johnson Knightdale Business Alliance Back to Top The Knightdale Business Alliance is an organization that brings together business and school leaders. The Alliance gives Eastern Wake County schools a direct conduit to the business community, providing educators contact with community leaders and information about marketplace demands, while providing students and educators unique "real world" experience. The group organizes career fairs, job shadow work days and open houses. The alliance has been formed to support our local schools and help expand their resources. Meetings are held monthly at Knightdale High School Media Center. Reservations are required.
